Research has been simplified and enhanced by the Roseman Labs platform. How do we evaluate and enhance the real impact of care? The first step involves collaborating on data within clinical care pathways while maintaining data privacy. Our technology ensures data privacy and allows data to be linked for a study on obesity care in the Dutch healthcare system. Through precise data gathering and analysis, we have a better understanding of continuity of care for patients transferring between hospitals. This marks a vital move towards superior obesity care.

Challenges in evaluating obesity care

Just like other healthcare domains, obesity care faces numerous challenges. Patients interact with multiple healthcare providers, so it's imperative to gather scattered data to evaluate the quality of care and therapeutic measures. As healthcare functions within a network, relying solely on data from one healthcare provider isn’t enough. Acquiring accurate insights hinges on the integration and analysis of patient and treatment data from all involved healthcare providers. Additionally, electronic patient records aren't uniformly structured - but the paramount challenge is safeguarding sensitive data.

A holistic assessment of care requires a more focused approach

Individual hospitals currently have insight into revision rates within their own populations. However, a holistic evaluation of the lasting effects of this care requires an analysis over several centers. With more than 12,000 interventions per year, it is clear that gaining more insight will undoubtedly improve the quality of care. Even small improvements will have a significant cumulative impact.

Secure data processing as a basis

DATO is a quality register of the Dutch Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (DSMBS), in which metabolic surgery in patients with severe obesity has been monitored since 2015. More than 70,000 patients have been registered with them to date.

In 2022, DSMBS started a study, using a new method, to look at the long-term results and costs of metabolic and bariatric surgery in patients with severe obesity. This included connecting data from a health insurer, data processing organizations and a national organization of medical specialists representing 20 hospitals. Roseman Labs ensures that personal, sensitive data remains inaccessible even to researchers. What makes our Multi-Party Compuation technology special? - the guarantee that the data that remains 'secret' can be used for all kinds of calculations. This approach opens the door to in-depth insights into disease progression, drug use and care activities between different hospitals.

Care improvement cycle is ready for the next step

The multidisciplinary Dutch guidelines advise counseling and therapy for at least 5 years after metabolic surgery. It has become clear that evaluating long-term results and identifying risk factors to prevent possible surgical re-interventions are both essential and desirable.

This is not just about obesity care. In the Netherlands there are more than 30 health quality registers. The potential for general improvement in healthcare through secure data collaboration to understand the actual impact of healthcare across hospitals and organizations is enormous. Most importantly, it is now possible thanks to Roseman Labs' innovative solutions.
