International cooperation: 10.5 million for Dutch innovation within Eurostars

Press Release June 25, 2006

Author:  Editorial Team

Dutch companies receive more than € 10.5 million for international innovation projects with the 10th Eurostars grant round. Within the 23 approved projects, the companies work together with partners from 14 different countries.

International Cooperation

Eurostars helps innovative companies in international cooperation. The programme stimulates research and development between countries in Europe.

The winning companies will work together with partners from 14 European countries, including Germany, Switzerland and France. Together with the foreign partners, all participants are investing almost €45 million in the innovation projects. Eurostars subsidizes 50% of the project costs.

Innovation in various sectors

The winning projects work on innovations in a wide range of fields. Think of life sciences, ICT, industrial production and transport. Agri-food, industrial technology and agriculture are also represented.

Dutch Participants

Dutch companies develop new products and services together with their international partners. Examples of Dutch winners in this grant round are:

  • VTEC Lasers & Sensors Ltd. works with UK partner Bay Photonics to improve the efficiency of Single-Photon Avalanche Diode (SPAD) devices at room temperature for quantum applications. A SPAD is an extremely sensitive semiconductor sensor that can detect individual light particles (photons).
  • QSA Technology B.V. is working with its British partner Xen Quantum on a new class of quantum-secure communication systems by merging several photonic components into one system.
  • Tzu Cancer Therapeutics B.V. will work with German partners Ibidi and the University of Düsseldorf. They develop a platform to filter loose cancer cells from a blood sample. With this, they want to be able to predict personalized cancer therapy.
  • ATA Mute B.V. has entered into a partnership with the German CompositeEdge and the Swiss BMS Energietechnik. They are working on technology to silence heat systems such as air conditioners

One of the winners of this round is Roseman Labs and their German partner spotixx. They are working together on a new software platform to discover financial crime faster. The platform helps banks with the Secure Multi-Party Computation (MPC) technique to investigate suspicious transactions together, without having to share their sensitive customer data with each other. This allows banks to calculate and analyze together, but the data itself remains encrypted.

"Through Eurostars, we can continue to develop our product. This allows us to add cryptographic applications. This makes it possible to securely link sensitive data within a network consisting of multiple banks."

Niek Bouman, Chief Technical Officer and co-founder of Roseman Labs
